Oppressive regimes censor investigative journalism to restrict news getting to out the public. A collection of songs representing repressed journalists was released on 2019 World Day Against Cyber Censorship. As music streaming platforms are freely available worldwide, Reporters Without Borders took advantage of this loophole to create a publicly available playlist comprised of songs by journalists from China, Egypt, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Local musicians and instruments were used to create the unique flavour of each piece of music.

The campaign won the year’s Titanium lion at Cannes. One song on the playlist by Vietnamese blogger Bùi Thanh Hiếu hit number 7 on the Vietnamese iTunes charts.
