Faroe Islands – Google Sheep View

The Faroe Islands are a small, beautiful archipelago with a bigger population of sheep than people. They’re so remote that residents had been petitioning Google Street View to map their islands, to no avail. Taking matters into their own hands, island authorities worked with a resident to mount solar powered 360-degree cameras on five sheep and launched “ Sheep View 360.” Images captured by the ramblings of the sheep were uploaded to Google’s API along with the image GPS coordinates.

Without any media budget, Sheep View 360 became the third most popular news story globally, with more than 7,000 articles published and more than 2 billion people reached. And the Faroe Islands got their Google Street View mapping.
