Netflix – The Friendly Pre-Roll Campaign

Friends is one of the most enduring sitcoms of all time, lasting 10 seasons and 10 years. With so many quotable episodes, it wasn’t just watched by an entire generation, it was lived.

When Netflix acquired the rights to Friends for the French network, they created responsive pre-roll ads to convince the new streaming generation how relatable the show was. The ads were based on user searches and played before selected videos, for example if you searched for a makeup tutorial it was preceded by a Friends ad showing Joey advertising men’s lipstick. Thousands of popular videos were tagged and they also made daily pre-rolls based on the top trending topics.
