A text line for suicide prevention offers cancer patients the opportunity to help save another human life. TXT 2 HLP was created to connect patients at NY–Presbyterian hospital with people threatening to end their own lives. 12 patients with terminal cancer enrolled and completed a 30-hour online training program before becoming home-based, volunteer crisis counsellors. The pilot program was so successful, it expanded to all affiliate hospitals.
