Researchers are developing frictionless nanomaterial coatings that are so slippery and water resistant that they can block adherence by any substance and protect surfaces from staining, contamination, corrosion, and the build-up of dust and microorganisms.

With durability levels far exceeding standard coatings, these nano-sealants also include features like transparency and breathability, and can be applied to a vast range of surface materials. In addition to significantly decreasing the need for surface cleaning, these nanomaterials are being examined for a wide range of other applications, including mechanical energy conservation, enhanced fluid filtration and transport.
